If you want to go for a Li-Po but are worried about the high voltage, go with a 7.4V LiPo with a high C rating, something at least 20-25C with a 40C burst rating. You'll actually have a realistic rate of fire as well as the excellent trigger response.

I just put a MOSFET in a guy's AEG at Airsoft Arms who was using a 7.2V and I was actually pretty blown away by the performance of the trigger response. Just something to consider if you're thinking of going LiPo.

Good to know Brad, I'll keep that in mind for my setup.

Guys you have to match the mosfet's ability to the motor and the lipo your'e using. Just because a mosfet can control the voltage flow doesn't mean it has lipo protection or motor throttling capabilities. There are many choices out there, but only a couple mosfets worth having.

I'd recommend AWS over anyone else, even though yes they can take a while to restock. Extreme fires are a joke with all their programming garbage and I have yet to see any other premade mosfet for airsoft that offers the same protection and abilities of the AWS systems.

So yes, Brad which ones are you using?

AWS are the only chips that offer LiPo low voltage shutdown circuitry. They are also the only chips that offer hardware burst rates as well as making sure that the piston always stops at full forward position (Pulse model monitors the position of the sector cam).

However, I've gone through 2 AWS controllers both of which did not work out of the box. It has been an ongoing issue since i installed the first one September 17th. I am in the process of sending this latest one back for testing and a replacement sent to me. While they are fairly good at responding to emails (atleast Rijvi is) i will say that these guys are not operating a business like one would expect. This is an out of the basement type operation and as such speedy resolutions do not exist.

As i said, the AWS provides the best "on paper", as i have yet to use one, features as well as the only controller to monitor LiPo voltage. So, if you're looking at a FET controller with features as such, your only choice is to take a chance at AWS and hope you dont run into problems.

It's too bad you've had bad units since I've only ever had good ones. Phalanx went through 12 of the old Pulse units(pre-PCB) but only because we finally used the MOSFETs up from blowing such high amperage through them all the time on the high speed guns.

Since then I've installed 2 other Pulse units(gen3), one for a buddy in Michigan and one locally to BULLFROG on 6mm militia in his SG552. He took it to Irene and said he shot all weekend without issue and he hasn't called back with any issue as of a few months ago when I last spoke to him.

I personally had the genIII pulse units on my last two M4 AEGs and only had one issue which was overheating the resettable fuse as one was faulty. Rij got on AIM with me for about an hour while we went through various testing steps to finally narrow it down to the fuse. When we did he sent me a new one no charge to wire in and I was on my way again.

Of course I am biased since I got to help beta test and provide input for all the current designs but even so, I still feel the product is worth the wait.

well whenever i get the new unit "Finals month will prevent any serious testing." is what i'm told so who knows when that will actually be. You're more than welcome to install mine. Not only am i sick of working on it, i'm sick of looking at it. Its a reminder of how much research, time, and money i've wasted on the gun since i broke it last april and decided to mod it.

Its a simple fucking installation procedure. Solder two wires to trigger leads. Glue microswitch next to sector cam and solder two wires to it. Connect the battery and motor leads. Reassemble. Boom! Done. Therefore, i know it is not an issue of mine.

Words cannot describe how disgusted i am right now.

I can get any MOSFET you want, but honestly, it's not worth my time. You can buy your MOSFET direct and save money, since neither AWS or Extreme Fire offer any kind of wholesale discounts. As far as what I'd go with personally, I'm not really sure. I've installed more Extreme Fire MOSFETs than I can count, and I've never gotten a bad one out of the box. I've installed two AWS units that I know for sure, and maybe a 3rd, but I can't honestly remember if it was AWS or E-F. Either way, had one AWS that didn't work at all and I basically gave it back to the guy and told him to send it back. Never heard another word about it.

I'll agree that the AWS definitely has the best specs on paper. I'm kind of concerned that Mav is having problems with his, and the one that I installed was bad, even though that was back in the spring. The Extreme Fire SW Cheetah does support LiPo overvoltage protection, but you have to buy the circuit from another guy to do it properly, and that's another $35 bucks per + shipping.

Personally I've had the best luck with the Extreme Fire SW-Evolution. I've installed over 10 of these for different people and each one worked as advertised every time and as far as I know they're still going strong. I'd like to do more testing with the AWS version though, as it definitely shows a lot of promise. I think Rocket has one in his AEG and he seems to love the AWS version too. I've just had more exposure to the Extreme Fire versions so maybe I've got more of a preference that way? That and they've been around for a bit longer and have a bit more exposure. Ah who knows, they're both good provided you get one that works properly.

I don't really have a vested interest in either so the choice is up to you. As Mav said earlier, AWS is a basement company, but so is Extreme Fire. That's why it's a toss up for me.

Been there, done that with MOSFETs. I spent ridiculous amounts of time modding and fiddling with that stuff on 2 guns, and finally realized it just wasn't worth the hassle.

So now I just run a 10.8v NimH with an AMP motor and no MOSFET controller. Great trigger response. Will it eventually kill the trigger contacts? Probably. But I'd rather spend $15 for a new switch assembly every year or so, which is a simple swap out, than screw around with MOSFETs which seem to have a mind of their own and are costly to fiddle with.

Hmmm, maybe simplicity has its benefit.
I kept getting on the AWS site to see if they had anything available, to no avail.
Then I got on Airsoft Atlantas site one day and saw they had complete trigger switch set ups including MOSFET units. These are drop in units with silver wire, the mosfets are basic, no frills, just enough to keep the switch from frying. They were JG brand. I thought they were probably junk, but they were also only $20. I bought 2 and installed them. They worked pretty well, so i bought 3 more.

I've had these in my guns for about two months now and the only problems I've had are that my guns with Systema magnum motors kept blowing the 20a fuse (they use a mini bladed type auto fuse) I replaced these with 30a and problem solved. The other problem was that I had to bevel the sliding part of the switch becuse the trigger would not reset on them, this was only in my ICSs.
Maybe I'll just stick with these for now.

Yea, the JG MOSFETs are fairly basic, but overall they work as a basic unit. I've come accross a few of them. Only had trouble with one, but it ended up not being a problem with the MOSFET, but the battery the guy was using. He just ended up having me remove the MOSFET instead of worrying about future problems.

As far as AWS, I haven't seen them available on the site for several months. I think you pretty much just have to order them and wait. I think they're kind of behind on orders for the time being, but that's just a guess. And again, if you don't want to wait, the Extreme Fire MOSFETs are usually available and are a great product too from the experiences I've had with them, so I know I can be confident recommending them. They may not have some of the features that the AWS versions have, and I think the Extreme Fires are more expensive, but they're good.

Just an update i'd thought i'd throw out there for those who know my situation.

As of today, i still havent received a replacement unit. I was told one shipped last tuesday but seeing its USPS and coming from new york, i have a hard time believing that it really did get shipped.

I'm still up in the air about how i want to handle a review. While one of the guys has been really good at answering emails, it still doesnt negate the fact that i have been without a working unit since September 09 given only promises that one is coming. I'm not sure $60 bucks is worth bitching about yet. I'd just hate to see someone else who might value $60 dollars more than i do not get anything out of it.
